What is rhinoplasty?

Rhinoplasty is a cosmetic and functional surgery designed to reshape the nose and adjust its proportions, in order to enhance facial harmony and, in many cases, improve breathing.

Rhinoplasty is a highly personalized procedure: every nose is unique and must be adapted to the patient’s facial proportions and features. The goal is always to achieve a natural, balanced, and functional result, while preserving the patient’s identity.

How is rhinoplasty performed?

Rhinoplasty is a procedure individually tailored to each patient. It is usually performed under general anesthesia and lasts between 2 and 3 hours.

In my practice, I perform ultrasonic rhinoplasty, an advanced technique that uses ultrasound instruments to reshape the nasal bones with maximum precision.

Key advantages of ultrasonic rhinoplasty:

  • Greater precision and control in bone reshaping.
  • Less trauma to surrounding tissues, resulting in reduced swelling and bruising.
  • Faster and more comfortable recovery for the patient.
  • More natural and harmonious results.

There are two main approaches:

  • Closed rhinoplasty: incisions inside the nose, leaving no visible external scar.
  • Open rhinoplasty: a small incision in the columella that provides full visibility and greater precision in complex cases. The scar is minimal and barely noticeable.

Beyond aesthetic improvement, ultrasonic rhinoplasty also allows correction of septal deviations and enhancement of breathing, ensuring a balance between appearance and function.

Results of rhinoplasty

The results of rhinoplasty become noticeable within the first few weeks, although the final appearance gradually settles over several months as swelling completely subsides.

  • Facial harmony: the nose is brought into balance with the rest of the facial features.
  • Natural look: ultrasonic rhinoplasty allows for highly precise work, minimizing irregularities and ensuring results that don’t look “operated.”
  • Functionality: beyond aesthetics, correcting septal deviations and structural issues improves breathing.
  • Faster recovery: because the technique is less traumatic to surrounding tissues, ultrasonic rhinoplasty reduces swelling and bruising, leading to a quicker recovery.

What is the recovery like after rhinoplasty?

Recovery after rhinoplasty varies for each patient, but with the ultrasonic technique, it is usually faster and more comfortable than with traditional methods.

  • First few days: swelling, nasal congestion, and mild bruising around the eyes are normal. With the ultrasonic approach, these effects are generally less pronounced. Relative rest and sleeping with the head elevated are recommended.
  • First week: the nasal splint and any external stitches are removed. Most patients can already resume light daily activities.
  • 2 to 3 weeks: swelling and bruising decrease significantly, and the nose starts to look increasingly natural.
  • After 1 month: patients can usually return to more intense physical activities, always with medical approval.
  • Final results: seen between 6 and 12 months, once all tissues have fully settled.

Ultrasonic rhinoplasty provides a more comfortable postoperative experience, with reduced swelling and quicker recovery, allowing patients to return to daily life sooner.

FAQ

Will there be visible scars?

In closed rhinoplasty there are no external scars. In open rhinoplasty, a small incision is made in the columella, which becomes virtually unnoticeable over time.

It is generally not painful. The most common effects are swelling, congestion, and some discomfort during the first few days, easily managed with medication.

Approximately 2 to 3 hours, depending on the complexity of the case.

Initial changes are noticeable once the splint is removed, but the final result is usually seen between 6 and 12 months, once swelling has completely resolved.

Yes, in many cases the aesthetic correction is combined with functional improvements (nasal septum and internal structures), enhancing breathing.

Less trauma to tissues, reduced swelling and bruising, faster recovery, and more precise and natural results.
